Focus & Scope

Aim and Objectives

Khidmat (e-ISSN: 2807-9027) is a peer-reviewed, open-access scholarly journal published semiannually (two issues per year) by the Community Service Center (Lembaga Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat / LPkM), Universitas Islam Darussalam (UID) Ciamis, West Java, Indonesia.

The journal aims to provide an authoritative academic forum for lecturers, researchers, community development practitioners, and students to publish and disseminate original, high-impact contributions derived from community engagement, participatory action research, and applied community development projects. It is dedicated to promoting collaborative knowledge, grassroots empowerment, and sustainable social transformation rooted in Islamic and local values.

Focus

Khidmat focuses on the process, implementation, and measurable outcomes of community service activities that employ participatory, asset-based, and evidence-informed methodologies (such as Participatory Action Research [PAR], Asset-Based Community Development [ABCD], Community-Based Participatory Research [CBPR], and Service Learning). The journal emphasizes projects that address real-world challenges, foster community self-reliance, and contribute to sustainable development goals (SDGs).

Scope and Thematic Areas

The journal invites original community service research articles and practice-based evaluation studies across the following core areas:

  • Religious and Socio-Spiritual Development: Islamic moderation programs, mosque and pesantren capacity-building, religious literacy, interfaith harmony, and socio-religious community counseling.

  • Educational Empowerment and Literacy: Non-formal and informal education initiatives, community learning centers (PKBM), digital literacy for marginalized communities, teacher training in rural areas, and inclusive education programs.

  • Socio-Cultural and Community Well-Being: Family welfare, youth empowerment, public health and sanitation campaigns, preservation of local wisdom/culture, and disaster risk reduction programs.

  • Community Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship: Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs / UMKM) mentoring, halal product certification assistance, Islamic social finance (ZISWAF) empowerment models, village-owned enterprises (BUMDes), and local economic sustainability.

  • Applied Science, Technology, and Environmental Sustainability: Appropriate technology transfer (Teknologi Tepat Guna), waste management, eco-farming/sustainable agriculture, and environmental conservation initiatives.

Manuscript and Methodological Standards

  • Methodological Framework: Manuscripts must clearly delineate the community engagement methodology (e.g., ABCD, PAR, SLA, or qualitative evaluation), community needs assessment, implementation stages, tangible outcomes/impact, and post-program sustainability.

  • Impact and Originality: Submissions must demonstrate measurable benefits to partner communities and provide actionable insights or transferrable models for broader application. Purely event-report narratives without analytical reflection are discouraged.

  • Review Process: All submissions undergo an initial editorial review followed by a rigorous double-blind peer review to ensure academic quality, social relevance, and adherence to publication ethics.
